Rajiv comes from a wealthy land-owning family. He returns to India from London after his studies and returns to a life of luxury, sharing a grand, palatial home with his mother, who hopes he will marry the Vijaya Singh Vijaya Singh—the only daughter of Thakur Ajay Singh. Yet Rajiv’s heart belongs to a different woman: Rajni, an orphan with no influential connections, and a love that feels both brave and forbidden. When Rajiv tells his mother that Rajni is the one he wishes to wed, she initially resists, but a warmer, more favorable encounter with Rajni softens her stance, and the match is arranged.
