What Is Mother City About?
The premise of Mother City without spoilers.
Filmed over six years, this documentary explores a David versus Goliath struggle in Cape Town, South Africa. Activists and domestic workers challenge powerful interests and political decisions in a city still marked by the legacy of spatial apartheid. The story begins with the controversial sale of a school intended for affordable housing to a private developer, igniting a defiant fight led by Nkosikhona "Face" Swartbooi. The film follows this struggle through the streets, the courts, and even parliament, set against the stunning backdrop of one of the world's most beautiful, yet brutally divided, cities.
