The premise of Miwa: A Japanese Icon without spoilers.
In the 1960s Japan’s celebrated star was paradoxically a man. Born Akihiro Maruyama, Miwa became an entertainer and gay‑rights activist. Later she performed in drag while living as a man off‑stage, and reflects on a 50‑year career in music, film and television.
