Maruthu is a dedicated labourer hailing from Thalaivankottai, where he works in the bustling Rajapalayam vegetable market. Living a contented life with his beloved grandmother, Appathaa, and his loyal friend, Kokkarako, Maruthu possesses a strong sense of justice and an unwavering stance against wrongdoing.

One day, while at work, he witnesses a terrifying scene where goons are pursuing his girlfriend Bhagyam and her father. Stepping in bravely, Maruthu confronts the goons and successfully beats them. After the incident, he learns from Bhagyam’s father about the tragic fate of her mother, Mariyamma. She was a courageous woman who openly opposed the ruthless municipal chairman, Rolex Pandiyan, for his corruption and exploitation of the local residents. When Mariyamma decided to take a stand and run against Pandiyan in the upcoming municipal elections, she became a target of violence, ultimately leading to her brutal murder at the hands of Pandiyan and his cronies.

Despite their efforts, Bhagyam and her father are powerless to provide sufficient evidence to accuse Pandiyan of the murder in court. Witnessing this heartbreaking scene, Appathaa, who had seen Mariyamma’s murder, is devastated by her inability to prevent it. As an act of repentance, she insists that Maruthu marries Bhagyam, while Maruthu vows to seek justice for Mariyamma’s untimely death.

What follows is a tense cat-and-mouse game wherein Pandiyan tries everything in his power to silence Bhagyam and Appathaa from bringing him to justice. In a court hearing, Appathaa bravely testifies against Pandiyan, leading to an arrest warrant being issued for him. In a dreadful act of revenge, Pandiyan retaliates by kidnapping Appathaa and subjecting her to horrifying torture, ultimately leading to her tragic death.

Overcome with rage and heartbreak, Maruthu embarks on a relentless quest for vengeance, taking on Pandiyan and his gang single-handedly. With fierce determination, he fights and defeats them all, culminating in the harrowing yet poignant moment where he fulfills his promise by performing Appathaa’s funeral rites, marking the end of a tumultuous chapter steeped in tragedy and the fight for justice.
