Tamizhselvi, a resident of the Ramanathapuram district, faces intense pressure from her relatives to marry one of her uncle’s sons in order to claim the family wealth, but she refuses to go along with the plan. The relatives, backed by the surrounding villagers, try to corner her and push the arrangement anyway, leaving Tamizhselvi with few good options.
With no other path in sight, she makes a bold move and goes to prison to seek out a man named Kathar Basha, also known as Muthuramalingam, hoping to reconnect with him. She leaves the prison after catching sight of her relatives, setting in motion a chain of revelations that unfold as Kathar learns of her visit.
Kathar learns of Tamizhselvi’s arrival and, after his own release from custody, sets out to meet her. He discovers Tamizhselvi’s family predicament and that Kaluvan, the village chieftain, is tied to his past in surprising ways — Kaluvan had once saved Kathar’s life in an earlier attack, a detail that links their fates in unexpected ways. The revelation about Kaluvan is a turning point, and the story begins to tilt toward a shared future.
Kathar steps in to shield Tamizhselvi from the pressure of her relatives, delivering blunt justice to her uncle’s sons who harass her. In an effort to settle debts, he tries to find a suitable groom for Tamizhselvi, but none prove satisfactory, and the path to a peaceful union remains blocked for the moment. As the layers unfold, Kathar learns that he is Kaluvan’s son, and that Kaluvan was pushed into the chieftain role by circumstances beyond his control. Kaluvan was also forced to abandon his wife, and Kathar was raised by Kaluvan’s friend Kathar Basha, a detail that adds depth to their bond and motivates Kathar’s protective stance.
From this point, a bond deepens between Kathar and Tamizhselvi, and the couple fall in love and eventually marry, choosing to face the world as partners rather than pawns of family pressure. Their union, however, draws sharp retaliation from those who resent Tamizhselvi’s growing strength and autonomy, and Kathar’s past credibility becomes a target.
One night, Kathar is ambushed by unknown henchmen, but he fights them off deftly. The attack is soon revealed to be orchestrated by Vedigundu Veliyan, a figure driven by power and revenge. Veliyan’s schemes are rooted in a larger battle for control of the village, a conflict in which Tamizhselvi’s family history and Kaluvan’s leadership intersect in dangerous ways.
Veliyan’s backstory centers on his father Veriyandi, who aspired to become the village chairman but was thwarted when Kathar Basha rose to that position to block Veriyandi’s plans. Veriyandi’s frustration leads to a brutal confrontation, and Kathar’s response is severe: he maims Veriyandi, cutting off his leg and hand, an act that lands Kathar in prison and fuels Veliyan’s vow to finish him. This vendetta drives Veliyan to recruit Tamizhselvi’s relatives as allies in a deadly feud.
As the conflict escalates, Tamizhselvi’s relatives align themselves with Veliyan in a bid to seize control, while Tamizhselvi herself makes a desperate move by donating half of her wealth to her kin to secure the care of her late brother’s children. The tension culminates during a bhoomi pooja, when Veliyan plants a bomb on the land and kills Tamizhselvi, shattering the fragile peace the couple had built.
Enraged and bent on justice, Kathar retaliates by eradicating Tamizhselvi’s remaining relatives and Veliyan, seeking to avenge her death and restore a measure of balance to the village as their story reaches its violent, uncompromising conclusion.
