Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi 2015

Philipose John Varkey, a nature enthusiast, takes up a quiet but urgent mission to safeguard an elusive tribal village known as 7000 Kandi. He begins by sending out letters to a hundred people, painting a picture of the forest’s delicate beauty and the people who call it home. As responses trickle in, a diverse group arrives at the edge of the woods: some are drawn by curiosity, some sense a shadow over the place, and a few decide to turn back. Yet six determined individuals press onward with the help of Sudheer Karamana to learn more about the village and its people. The ensemble includes Shanumgan Ilangovan, Madhumita Krishnan, C. K. A. K. Menon, Beeran, Prof. N. Neelakandan, and Ananthakrishnan Iyer, whose presence gives the mission a depth of purpose and courage.

Philipose then reveals a century-and-a-half-old treaty between a landlord and the Livingston company. According to this agreement, the company holds the right to transform the forest into an industrial zone or a plantation for the next 150 years. If the company fails, the forest reverts to the Indian government; if they succeed, the clock can be extended for another 350 years. The plot thickens as the company sets its sights on rare earth minerals rumored to lie beneath the trees, prompting them to enlist the help of the Bangalore brothers, Assim Jamal, to oversee the felling and extraction work.

Despite the looming pressure, Philipose perseveres in convincing the six and the local tribe that 7000 Kandi and its people deserve protection, pushing back against a history of being mistaken as ghosts by the native community itself. With the odds stacked, the combined effort of the six and the tribal inhabitants aims to halt the onslaught and keep the forest intact. The story follows the uneasy alliance between guardians of the land and a determined group within the forest who refuse to surrender their homeland.

As the plan unfolds, a new twist emerges: the treaty remains valid for only four more months, and the mission shifts toward handing the forest over to an international firm. This development places the tribals in a direct confrontation with the company, forcing them to fight not just for land, but for life on their own terms. The climactic sequence pits Philipose, the six protagonists, and the tribal community against the corporate push to take the land, culminating in a confrontation that tests loyalty, resilience, and the very idea of stewardship. In the end, the struggle intensifies as the characters stand firm, determined to preserve their ancestral home even as external forces press to redraw the map.
