Lalgudi Karupaiah Gandhi (LKG) RJ Balaji is a councillor from Lalgudi, Tiruchirappalli and belongs to the ruling party. He dreams of a rapid rise in politics, unlike his father Nanjil Sampath Azhagu Meiyappan, who never achieved fame as a politician nor made substantial money. When the incumbent Chief Minister Avudaiyappan Mudhaliar (Ananth Vaidyanathan) falls ill and is hospitalised, Bojappan—the party general secretary—steps in as interim CM. Since Avudaiyappan is the MLA from Lalgudi, LKG resolves to contest the by-election there to strengthen the party’s position once Avudaiyappan dies.
To secure media visibility and earn Bojappan’s favor, LKG hires a media strategist and travels to Delhi to stage a protest and highlight health issues, which earns him broader attention. He finally meets Bojappan at the party headquarters in Daryaganj. Within a week, Avudaiyappan dies, Bojappan becomes the new CM, and a by-election is scheduled in the Lalgudi constituency. Bojappan publicly declares LKG as the by-election candidate, a move that prompts resistance and disagreement among many party ministers and senior leaders.
Ramraj Pandian (J. K. Rithesh), the deputy-general secretary who had been abroad in the United States when Avudaiyappan died, returns furious and declares his intention to contest as an independent, vowing to expel Bojappan from the party and government if he wins. LKG faces the harsh reality of electoral politics: Ramraj’s strong local influence, his caste base, and the loyalty of numerous ministers and MLAs who prefer to stay neutral rather than back a likely victor. To blunt Ramraj’s momentum, LKG devises a plan to damage Ramraj’s image with the help of meme creators and his own sidekicks, spreading rumors that Ramraj is a woman in disguise and prompting social-media trolling. Ramraj also falters when he cannot sing the Tamil Thai Valthu at a college function, further denting his appeal.
Ramraj discovers that Sara was apparently working against him and turns to national leaders for support, while trying to disrupt Bojappan’s attempt to rally the party MLAs at a resort. Sara returns to back LKG, but a power struggle within the party surfaces as some senior figures resist LKG’s growing prominence. Bojappan remains supportive of LKG. In the election, LKG defeats Ramraj, and Bojappan ends up facing corruption accusations and arrest, paving the way for LKG to become the CM-elect.
The following morning, as LKG stands at the podium to be sworn in, he is shot by a sniper but survives thanks to a bulletproof vest—an anticipation he had prepared for. The shooter is a young man who longs for a new generation of honest politicians. In a rallying address, LKG proclaims his intent to bring change and reveals that corruption cases against Bojappan have been transferred to the CBI. He also notes the presence of educated youngsters entering politics who often go unrecognized because the big parties dominate attention. The sniper is persuaded by this narrative, and a broad section of the public buys into LKG’s rhetoric. Yet Sara’s quiet smile hints at a deeper game: LKG’s rise may be built on the same strategic manipulations she helped orchestrate, and the final truth suggested is that LKG has no real plan to release Bojappan from prison.
