
In 1941, after Nazi Germany invades the Soviet Union and surrounds Leningrad, foreign correspondents are ordered to evacuate. Journalist Kate Davies, presumed dead, misses the plane and remains trapped in the besieged city. She is taken in by Nina Tsvetnova, a young idealistic police officer. Together they fight to survive and to protect the civilians enduring the brutal siege, becoming heroes in the midst of devastation.
