What Is Lena and the Geese About?

In old Holland, a noblewoman’s first‑born daughter is placed with Gretchen, a widowed peasant who raises her alongside her own son as sisters. On her deathbed the noblewoman summons her heir, but Gretchen sends her own daughter Lena, the goose girl, to the court. Lena becomes a lady, yet she yearns for Gretchen and the geese she left behind.
