Po, Jack Black, begins to realize that his father, Mr. Ping, has been giving away Po’s belongings as bonus gifts to customers, including the action figures of the Furious Five. As Po scours the shop for the missing toys, Master Oogway, Randall Duk Kim provides a guiding whisper from the past, asking whether there is a real difference between an accident and destiny, a question that frames the rest of the story.
Ten years before Po’s adventures in the present, a young Tigress, Tara Strong, trains under Master Shifu, a strict mentor who measures success by perfect form and discipline. When Oogway and Shifu visit Mr. Ping’s noodle restaurant, a mishap places Po in charge of the eatery in his father’s absence. A formidable warrior named Boar is marching toward the Valley of Peace, defeating every kung fu master who stands in his way. With Shifu incapacitated, Tigress is pressed into service, and she receives a scroll listing four warriors who might be able to stop Boar.
Meanwhile, Po drafts his own scroll, dreaming up possible future paths, but his father insists he discard it. In a twist of fate, Tigress accidentally loses her scroll and mistakes Po’s for hers, setting off a chain of mistaken identities. Po’s scroll lists the names “Cleaner,” “Comedian,” “Dancer,” and “Doctor,” which leads Tigress to assemble Crane the Cleaner, Monkey the Comedian, Viper the Dancer, and Mantis the Doctor instead of the four assigned warriors. Tigress is impressed by the skills she sees, thinking Shifu will be proud of her choices, and returns to the Jade Palace with her team.
When the truth comes out, Shifu’s anger crushes Tigress’s confidence, and she retreats into a quiet, frustrated mood. Yet Master Oogway steps in with quiet wisdom, encouraging her to embrace who she is rather than chase someone else’s idea of perfection. This moment becomes the emotional pivot that helps the new team find their own rhythm. Tigress tries to stick to Shifu’s rigid style in the ensuing confrontation with Boar, and at first she is overwhelmed. But the combined effort of Crane, Monkey, Viper, and Mantis—each bringing a distinct style—slows Boar long enough for Tigress to adapt. In a turning, almost revelatory moment, Tigress fully accepts her own fearless style, and with the support of her unlikely teammates, she defeats Boar.
Po witnesses the dramatic battle from a distance, and the sight stirs a long-ignored spark inside him: a passion for kung fu. Back at the Jade Palace, Shifu’s anger softens as he recognizes the value in Tigress’s unorthodox approach, and he grants her access to the training room to further refine her signature Tigress style. He also invites Crane, Monkey, Viper, and Mantis to stay, acknowledging that their unique styles can be honed and integrated with the broader kung fu tradition.
Returning to the present, Po’s path comes full circle as he finds the toys again, this time alongside a curious bunny boy. Po observes the bunny’s bright, unrestrained play and feels already connected to that same childhood fire. He makes a heartfelt decision: he lets the bunny keep the toys. In a quiet, defiant moment of honesty, Po confesses to the Five that the toys are “where they’re meant to be,” but more importantly that he already possesses the “real thing right here.”
