Chandrashekhar, shortly called Shekhar, Shammi Kapoor belongs to an aristocratic family ruled by his domineering mother Lalita Pawar. After completing a London education, he returns to run the family business, upholding a rigid code where even laughter is forbidden. His younger sister Mala Shashikala refuses to follow the rules; she laughs freely, roams the house, and falls in love with Jeevan Anoop Kumar, a loyal employee in the company.
