Journey to the Seventh Planet 1962

Capt. Don Graham [John Agar] leads an international five-man crew on a mission to Uranus in 2001, joined by Karl [Peter Mönch], Barry O’Sullivan [Ove Sprogøe], Ellen [Annie Birgit Garde], and Svend [Louis Miehe-Renard].

During the voyage, an alien presence briefly seizes control of the crew’s minds, and they awaken safely only to discover a long, unexplained gap in time. Upon landing, the explorers find a forested world that looks curiously like Earth, yet it is ringed by a mysterious barrier. When a crew member stretches an arm through the barrier, it freezes in place, a chilling sign that something unseen is at work.

As the crew investigates, new features and forms begin to emerge from their imaginations, reshaping the landscape around them. A village materializes, populated by attractive women whom the men have known in the past, adding both allure and danger to their strange surroundings. Among these survivors are Ingrid [Ann Smyrner], Ursula [Mimi Heinrich], Greta [Greta Thyssen], Lise [Ulla Moritz], and Colleen [Bente Juel], whose presence complicates the crew’s predicament and offers possible aid in their struggle.

The threats grow more tangible as they encounter bizarre monsters — from a giant bipedal cyclopean rodent to a lobster-like insect — each encounter feeding the sense that someone is manipulating reality itself. The crew soon realizes they are the victims of mind control by a gigantic, one-eyed brain living in a cave. This “Being” has the power to peer into their innermost thoughts, making their fears feel real and twisting their perceptions to serve its own goal.

The brain-Being plans to possess the astronauts’ bodies and haul them back to Earth to implement a plan for global domination. The team, bolstered by the sympathetic women and their own determination, fights back against the invasive presence. They press the battle to the Being’s lair, contending with monsters conjured from their personal fears and fighting a desperate, nerve-wracking war of minds and bodies.

In a climactic confrontation, the crew defeats the Being and escapes with their ship, leaving Uranus behind. Back aboard the rocket, they chart a course home, carrying with them the memory of a world where imagination and nightmare blurred, and where human courage faced down a cosmos of fear.
