John Mills plays Dingle, a laid‑back high‑school teacher who cares deeply for his pupils. When the new, authoritarian headmaster Frome (Cecil Parker) imposes harsh, repressive rules, Dingle defends the students and is swiftly dismissed. Undeterred, the children band together, plotting to reinstate their beloved teacher and to secure the instruments needed for the upcoming music festival despite Frome’s refusal to fund them.
