Sarah Brown, orphaned by a car crash, travels to England to stay with her aunt Velvet. Velvet introduces her to competitive horse‑riding and gifts her the last foal of her prized stallion, The Pie. Velvet Brown’s younger brother, Donald, has married and moved to Arizona. After a car crash claims Donald and his wife, their 14-year-old daughter Sarah Brown moves to England to live with her aunt Velvet and Velvet’s partner, John Seaton.
When Sarah arrives in England, Velvet recalls her own youth and her Grand National triumph with her horse Pie, a victory shadowed by the decision to disqualify Velvet for being underage and an unlicensed jockey. The Pie is retired to stud, and his last foal is born shortly after Sarah’s arrival.
Sarah shows remarkable riding talent and is selected for the British Olympic equestrian team. She competes as a junior member but trains under the stern guidance of Captain Johnson, steadily honing her technique and focus. Her dedication pays off as she helps Great Britain win the team competition in the Olympic Three Day Event, a triumph that reverberates beyond the arena.
During this journey, Sarah meets and falls in love with American competitor Scott Saunders. The pair marry and move back to America, carrying with them the dream that began in England.
In the film’s closing chapters, the couple returns to England to visit Velvet and John. Sarah presents Velvet with her Olympic medal, a tangible symbol of the long road from youth to international achievement and the enduring bond between family, mentors, and the sport that changed their lives.
