While he’s awaiting the results of his appeal, he returns to his hometown, Argyle, Texas, to reconnect with his 12-year-old son Connor. Not knowing how long he’ll stay, Sean checks into a local hotel for five days and heads to his old middle school, Liberty Christian, to see the place that shaped so many of his memories.

Showing up to the football team’s game unannounced, his ex-wife Beth Jackie Sandler and her new husband Jaime call him over. Connor wonders why his father has come, and Sean explains that he just wants to get to know him better. Beth and Jaime invite him to their barbecue the next afternoon, where Sean first meets the team’s dynamics and the town’s rhythms. Back in his office, Sean places the second-place middle school trophy beside the Super Bowl trophy, a quiet symbol of redemption and renewed purpose, just as a janitor named Lionel enters with a reminder that life can surprise you in surprising ways.
