In a Kerala palace steeped in tradition and ambition, a tangled web of greed pulls Ravi Varma and his kin toward a dangerous scheme. Alongside his father Prabhakara Varma, his elder cousin Rajaraja Varma, and his grandfather Kesava Pillai, Ravi Varma plots to end the life of the king, Maharaja Udayavarma Thampuran, in a bid to seize the royal wealth. The clan’s motive is clear: secure the inheritance that would otherwise pass to others, and in their eyes, the best path to power lies through blood. The mood in the palace darkens as the possibility of losing the fortune to Radha—the king’s adopted daughter—looms large, because Radha’s status as heir threatens the conspirators’ grip on wealth. Bhagirathi Valiya Thampurati, the king’s wife, has fallen into a deep depression after the sudden death of their son Unni, and she is kept under lock and care within the home, a situation that deepens the tension around Radha’s future and the king’s legacy. Radha herself is a beacon of tenderness amid the gloom, a figure who slowly attracts attention as she navigates a palace filled with intrigue.
To carry out their brutal plan, the conspirators seek outside help, sending Ravi Varma far to Mumbai in search of a hitman. There, Jamal Jamal becomes an unlikely ally, guiding him to Abdullah Abdullah, a singer in need of money who agrees to travel to Kerala and take the king’s life. Abdullah adopts the disguise of Ananthan Namboodiri, presenting himself as a trusted friend of Ravi Varma who wishes to study the palace while staying under its roof. Thampuran, wary yet curious, grants him permission to remain for a few days. The ruse works far more easily than the conspirators expect. Bhagirathi gradually perceives Ananthan as a stable presence, perhaps even as Unni himself returned in disguise, and begins to regain a spark of hope.
As the plan unfolds, the younger uncle Gupthan Gupthan senses a dangerous ripple in the palace’s calm. He feeds a misleading tale to Ramanattukara Ananthan Namboodirippad, a renowned musician Ramanattukkara Ananthan Namboodiri, casting suspicion on Ananthan and provoking a showdown of art and ego. The musician responds with a formidable performance, a duel of voice and virtuosity as he sings the famous Devasabhathalam, and in the heat of the moment, Ananthan earns genuine respect for his talent—whether that respect will translate into trust remains to be seen. The palace’s tensions simmer, underscored by the tension between the old traditions of the Thampurans and the new, ambitious players drawn into the king’s orbit.
Beneath the surface, Ananthan faces a stark inner conflict: he is, in truth, Abdullah, a Muslim who has been hired to kill the king. He confides in Thampuran, explaining that he has found himself trapped among enemies who are, in fact, his own family’s scheming circle. Thampuran, who once treated Ananthan as just another palace guest, learns that the man he trusted hails from a lineage connected to his own past. Rather than act on the plan, Ananthan pleads that he cannot carry out the murder. This moment shifts the balance of power and raises the stakes for the entire conspiracy.
The tension escalates when the conspirators send Kabir, a goon from Bombay, to carry out the deed. A brutal confrontation ensues as the palace becomes a battleground, with Ananthan showing his true mettle and turning the tide against the intruders. In a dramatic turn, Ananthan frees Thampuran, who had been confined in a room to keep him out of harm’s way. Thampuran’s realizations arrive late but powerfully: Ananthan is the son of a close friend, a truth that forces him to confront his earlier doubts and misgivings. The old man’s heart softens as he sees in Ananthan the courage and loyalty that money cannot buy.
In the aftermath of the confrontation, Thampuran makes a momentous decision. He forgives what he once believed, acknowledges Ananthan’s humanity, and requests that he remain in the palace as Unni. He also chooses Radha as the rightful heir’s successor, a declaration that reshapes dynastic plans and the future of the palace. In the end, Ananthan accepts the king’s offer, choosing love and loyalty over greed, and he vows to marry Radha, uniting two souls who navigated a maze of deception to find each other.
This tale of family ambition, cunning disguise, and heartfelt loyalty unfolds with a blend of dramatic intrigue and musical moments. It weaves together the legends of a royal household with the personal journeys of those who walk its halls, from the scheming relatives to the honest hearts that refuse to betray. The world of the palace breathes with color, sound, and sentiment as the characters grapple with questions of wealth, identity, and the true meaning of family.
