Ho Po-Wing and Lai Yiu-Fai are a gay couple from Hong Kong whose relationship feels perpetually unsettled, swinging between moments of closeness and long stretches of distance. They set out for Argentina together, hoping for a new start, but their plans unravel when they get lost on the way to the famous Iguazu Falls, and the strain of the journey foreshadows a deeper fracture between them.

With no money to return home, Fai stays behind as Po-Wing slides into a life of casual encounters, frequently seen with different men. The tension between them deepens as Fai accuses Po-Wing of draining their funds and leaving him stranded in a foreign city. A brutal incident follows when Po-Wing steals from someone he knows, and he is badly beaten as a consequence. In a gesture of compromise, Fai opens his small rented room to Po-Wing and tends to his injuries, and the two attempt to rebuild some trust. Yet mutual suspicion and jealousy quietly color every interaction, threatening to pull them apart even as they cling to what remains of their bond.

Fai’s luck at the tango bar ends after a violent confrontation with the man who injured Po-Wing, and he must find work elsewhere. He starts a new job at a Chinese restaurant, where he befriends Chang, a Taiwanese co-worker who becomes a quiet pivot in his life. As Fai sutures himself into a different routine, Po-Wing drifts through Buenos Aires, and the relationship they share continues to hover on the edge of breaking.

A final argument tests the fragile balance between them, and Fai refuses to return Po-Wing’s passport, a decision that signals a definitive rift. Po-Wing leaves the apartment to recover, while Chang eventually departs Buenos Aires to keep traveling. The city and the jealousy that once bound them begin to fade into memory as each man faces the consequences of their choices apart from one another.

Eventually Fai earns enough to head home and decides to visit Iguazu Falls one last time alone before his departure. Po-Wing returns to an empty, quiet apartment, his heart heavy as he comes to terms with the possibility that this chapter may be closed for good. Fai’s return to Hong Kong comes with a stopover in Taipei, where fate leads him to a night-market stall run by Chang’s family. In a poignant, undone gesture, he pockets a photo of Chang from the booth, explaining that even if their paths may never cross again, he knows where to find him.
