In the wake of World War III, the world has fallen into anarchy and water is endlessly scarce, forcing the last of humanity to fight for survival. Two rival martial arts orders, the North Star and the Southern Cross, once stood for order, but a brutal betrayal shattered both sides. Shin, a Southern Cross adept, turned on his masters and killed Ryuken, the North Star master, leaving Kenshiro as the sole heir. Shin then abducted Kenshiro’s fiancée, Julia, and holds her captive in a towering fortress, ruling the land with a merciless militia known as the Crossmen, led by the ruthless enforcer Jackal, whose head is bound in leather bands after Kenshiro left him scarred in an earlier fight.
