Ellie DeWitt is a U.S. Marine veteran who wants to become an FBI agent. She has impressive physical skills, but she struggles with the academic side of training. Her roommate, Janis Zuckerman, is equally determined yet physically weaker, making her a sharp contrast to Ellie’s strengths. Despite the male recruits’ assumptions about them, the two women refuse to be sidelined and decide to support one another as they push through the grueling basic training to prove they can join the federal ranks.

During the course, Ellie and Janis confront an instructor who seems bent on failing them, face a fellow trainee who flirts with Ellie until she asserts her Marine discipline and pins him against a wall during an exercise, and befriend a geeky co-trainee, Howard, who appears unable to complete even simple tasks. The trio discovers that teamwork and clever cooperation can outmaneuver rigid expectations and stiff competition, turning their perceived weaknesses into hard-won strengths.

Joining forces, the three tackle the final practice simulation, forging the instructor’s signature, and breaking into the telephone room to locate the supposed hostage. They also use their radio to mislead the other agents into a swamp, ensuring they arrive at the hostage’s location first. Their quick thinking and coordinated moves showcase how, when they pool their unique talents, they can outmaneuver obstacles and outperform even seasoned recruits.

In the end, Ellie and Janis graduate with honors. The credits roll on a scene that hints at a bright future: both women are assigned as partners in the Los Angeles office, signaling that their bond and skills have earned them a well-deserved break into federal work together.
