Gaurav Chadana, portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan, is a fervent fan living in Delhi, completely captivated by the glitz and glamour of Bollywood superstar Aryan Khanna, who is also played by Shah Rukh Khan. From an early age, Gaurav has idolized Aryan, dedicating countless hours and resources to amass an impressive collection of Aryan’s memorabilia. In fact, his room resembles a shrine filled with posters and artifacts dedicated to his hero.

Gaurav, who firmly believes Aryan’s mantra that he owes his success to his fans, sacrifices his academic pursuits, struggling to achieve even a passing grade in school. As he matures, he takes over a local cyber cafe, clinging to his dreams of being close to Aryan. His moment of glory arrives when he wins a local talent competition by perfectly impersonating Aryan. He decides to take this opportunity to meet his idol face-to-face, making plans to journey to Mumbai on Aryan’s birthday, despite not having a train ticket—an echo of Aryan’s own struggles when he first arrived in the city. Gaurav is determined to replicate Aryan’s path, right down to staying at Hotel Delight in room number 205.

In Mumbai, Aryan lives a full life with his wife, Bella (Waluscha De Sousa), and their children, Dhruv (Mohit Bagri) and Ishaa (Bianca Colaco), all under the watchful eye of his manager, Sunaina (Sayani Gupta), and his protective bodyguard, Digvijay Rohildas. On the highly anticipated day of Aryan’s birthday, Gaurav braves the chaotic crowds in hopes of catching a glimpse or, better yet, a moment with his idol. However, his aspirations are crushed when Aryan’s security keeps him at bay, and his brief encounter with Aryan leaves him disillusioned.

Gaurav’s frustration escalates when Sid Kapoor (Taher Shabbir), a fellow actor, publicly mocks Aryan for his perceived neglect of emerging talents—a comment that strikes a chord with Gaurav. Fueled by passion and anger, Gaurav confronts Sid, demanding an apology while capturing the act on video. With the clip going viral, Aryan’s personal assistant brings it to his attention, labeling Gaurav’s behavior a betrayal. This prompts Aryan to take drastic measures, instructing the police to detain Gaurav without formal charges, ultimately leading him to jail where he faces brutality.

In a chilling encounter, Aryan visits Gaurav in prison, bluntly declaring, “You are not my fan,” and urging him to return home. Devastated, Gaurav tears down his Aryan memorabilia and vows revenge against his once-beloved idol.

One year later, in London, Gaurav’s hate for Aryan manifests when he disrupts a featured exhibit at Madame Tussauds, impersonating Aryan once more. This audacious act sends waves through the media, and upon Aryan’s return from a performance in Dubrovnik, Gaurav follows in the shadows, masquerading as a backup dancer just to sully Aryan’s reputation during a high-profile event. He crosses a line during a damaging incident at a wedding performance, leading to public outrage against Aryan, who is left scrambling to salvage his career.

As the chaos unfolds, Aryan issues a statement urging the media to remain vigilant about Gaurav, whom he deems dangerous, igniting a public frenzy. Meanwhile, back in India, Gaurav infiltrates Aryan’s home, causing havoc as he questions why Aryan has not publicly apologized. This prompts Aryan to devise a plan to confront Gaurav, leading to an explosive face-off at a local talent show where Gaurav finally snaps.

In a harrowing showdown on a rooftop, Aryan implores Gaurav to accept his true identity rather than live in Aryan’s shadow. As Aryan begins to extend a hand to save him, Gaurav, still clinging to his anger, lets go, choosing to embrace his fate with a chilling smile as he falls. Aryan is left paralyzed by the traumatic event, forever haunted by Gaurav’s demise, evident each year as he greets fans on his birthday, feeling the weight of Gaurav’s presence in the crowd.

Through this complex narrative of obsession, betrayal, and tragedy, the film delves deep into the darker implications of fame and the cost of idolization, leaving viewers with a haunting reflection on the nature of stardom and its impact on both fans and celebrities alike.
