Hamid’s world centers on his murky lineage and the family he’s built around him. Hamid has no memory of his mother and his only close relationship is with his father, Haider, who never answers questions about her. His life is further defined by two loyal friends: Hamzakkoya and Beeran. When Haider dies, Hamzakkoya and Beeran try to lift his spirits by suggesting marriage as a way out of loneliness, nudging him toward Sainaba, a woman he and Sainaba both like. Yet Sainaba’s father refuses the match, branding Hamid as an orphan, which deepens Hamid’s ache even as he keeps running his antiques shop with Beeran at his side.

The turning point comes when Hamid stumbles upon his father’s will, which reveals a startling family secret: Haider had two wives—one in Kozhikode and another in Ponnani. The will orders Haider’s land to be divided into three equal parts, two of which go to the two wives, with the remainder set aside for charity. Aishumma presents herself as warm and caring with Hamid but harsh toward Hamzakoya and Beeran, adding tension to the journey. Her claims of family history clash with the brothers’ instincts, and Hamzakkoya heads to Ponnani to dig deeper.

Back at the antique shop, a chance discovery — a postcard hidden in a gramophone record, written in Urdu — becomes a pivotal clue. While paying a visitor, Hamid hands over a record for free, and the Urdu note eventually points toward Begum Laila, a woman in Lucknow. This new thread leads Hamid to Lucknow, where he learns that Aishumma has likely used his father’s name to mislead him. The trip unfolds with misdirection: Aishumma pretends to know Lucknow well, but Hamid soon suspects she is steering him away from the truth. The two lodging nights and the hurried pursuit of the true lead push Hamid to push deeper, while he clings to Sivankutty’s address as a potential beacon.

The truth finally lands when Hamid discovers Begum Laila’s son, Khalid, who is eerily similar to him — a doppelganger that unsettles the search. Begum Laila’s circumstances are complicated; she is now married, and her son is on the cusp of his own wedding, a detail that intensifies the emotional stakes. In a moment of resolve, Hamid tears up the postcard and returns home, choosing to accept Aishumma as his mother rather than chase further deception.
