Thirumalai runs a small provision store in Karaikudi and lives with his wife Selvi, her younger brother Karupatti [Vadivelu], their son Krishna [Bharath Srinivasan], his daughter Vanitha, and his mother. He is known for being strict and quick to anger, earning the nickname Emdan from relatives. The constant tension at home colors every day, and Krishna studies poultry science in a nearby college while also helping in the shop. Krishna [Bharath Srinivasan] carries the burden of his father’s sharp temper, hoping for a calmer life for his family and a chance to prove his own strength.

Divya [Gajala] is Krishna’s classmate and the daughter of Balasubramanian, the auditor who manages Thirumalai’s accounts. Divya makes her feelings clear and proposes to Krishnan, who does not return the sentiment. Instead, Krishnan reveals that his heart belongs to Janani [Gopika], the daughter of his maternal uncle Natarajan. This confession plants the seed of a forbidden romance, complicated by the deep-seated family rift that stretches back years.

Twelve years earlier, a collapsed loan attempt from Selvi’s family to expand the shop sparked a feud in the present, when Thirumalai publicly slapped Selvi at a temple festival to insult her brothers. The humiliation sparked a fierce clash, driving a wedge between Thirumalai’s family and Janani’s kin. Krishnan clings to the hope that the two households can someday reunite, clearing the path for his wedding and a future together with Janani [Gopika].

Chellakannu [Ennatha Kannaiya], Thirumalai’s father-in-law, lies on his deathbed as his wife visits with the wish that both families reconcile before it’s too late. Thirumalai, stubborn as ever, initially refuses, sending her away. The next day he leaves for Madurai, while Selvi and Krishna steal a moment of escape on his scooter to visit Chellakannu. A tense sequence unfolds, but a clever diversion—taking him to the Kunnakudi Murugan Temple—helps them dodge punishment. Chellakannu passes away that night, and the condolence brings the two families to the verge of a truce, if only temporarily.

Krishnan and Janani feel the spark of love rekindling after so many years, and Janani [Gopika] returns his feelings in kind. However, trouble resurfaces when the two families clash again over the budding romance. A blowout erupts after the moment is witnessed by Thirumalai and Natarajan, who blame each other’s child. Thirumalai strikes Krishnan and forcibly sends the couple away from their home. In a bold act of defiance, Janani hides in the car boot and accompanies Krishnan back to his house, deepening the family conflict and testing loyalties.

With the help of Balasubramanian, Krishnan seeks meaningful work to secure his future. He lands a job at a poultry farm in Udumalaipettai, signaling a turning point for his family’s fortunes. Krishnan and Janani marry, and they welcome a baby boy, a symbol of their renewed life together. Krishna’s career begins to progress, and Thirumalai—seeing his son’s success from a distance—feigns happiness, even as ego tempers his joy. Natarajan finally greets Krishnan and sees the genuine love and care he shows for Janani, fostering reconciliation between them.

The plot advances toward a new alliance: Krishnan visits Thirumalai with a view to an eventual match for his sister, and emotional, clarifying conversations follow. Balasubramanian arranges Divya’s engagement with the man she truly loves, signaling a broadening arc of forgiveness and forward momentum for everyone involved. In the end, Thirumalai overcomes his stubborn pride, content to witness his son’s growth and the flourishing life of both families. The film closes on a warm, hopeful note, with the entire clan living together in happiness and harmony.
