What happens in Ed Gein: The Butcher of Plainfield from start to finish, spoilers included, with a timeline of 15 key events. The opening is below; the full summary is a 2-minute read.

Spoilers ahead

Ed Gein, Kane Hodder is a socially awkward farmer living alone on the outskirts of Plainfield, Wisconsin. Grief over the recent death of his overbearing mother leaves him isolated and increasingly unstable. He begins digging up and “borrowing” the bodies of women who remind him of her, with the reluctant help of his only friend, Jack, Michael Berryman. In 1957, Ed suffers a psychotic break that bursts into a brutal spree: he murders a stranded motorist named Becky, the graveyard security guard, Jay Wilkins and his companion, before abducting a bartender named Sue Layton, Caia Coley who portrays her. Sue is taken to Ed’s barn, where a chilling transformation begins.
