Ed Gein, Kane Hodder is a socially awkward farmer living alone on the outskirts of Plainfield, Wisconsin. Grief over the recent death of his overbearing mother leaves him isolated and increasingly unstable. He begins digging up and “borrowing” the bodies of women who remind him of her, with the reluctant help of his only friend, Jack, Michael Berryman. In 1957, Ed suffers a psychotic break that bursts into a brutal spree: he murders a stranded motorist named Becky, the graveyard security guard, Jay Wilkins and his companion, before abducting a bartender named Sue Layton, Caia Coley who portrays her. Sue is taken to Ed’s barn, where a chilling transformation begins.

Ed then uses Sue’s flesh to craft a disturbing “woman suit” and proceeds to kidnap Vera Mason, Priscilla Barnes a hardware store owner, after Vera’s son, Deputy Bobby Mason, is away in another county with his girlfriend, Erica, Adrienne Frantz. Vera’s disappearance triggers a frantic response from the Plainfield police as they close in on Ed’s secluded world. Bobby, racing back to town, crashes his car, and the wounded Erica is seized by Ed as the investigation intensifies. A witness reports seeing what looked like a woman’s feet dangling from the back of Ed’s truck, pulling the case toward a break in the case.

In the aftermath, Deputy Bobby Mason and the sheriff, Timothy Oman, rally the local force to track Ed down while Erica, now back with Bobby, faces the danger that still lingers in Plainfield. The police sweep Ed’s farm and uncover what remains of Sue and Vera, and the town reels from the horror of what has unfolded. Bobby vows to end Ed’s rampage, while Ed has vanished with Erica, leading to a tense pursuit into the woods.

Erica confronts Ed with questions about humanity, asking if he has any compassion. Ed’s answer is blunt and nihilistic, revealing that his own compassion died with his family and that life is hollow because it inevitably ends, insisting that “we’re all just flesh.” > we’re all just flesh. < This bleak philosophy reinforces the walls Ed has built around himself. Bobby, determined to protect Erica, steps in and saves her from Ed, though not without a struggle that tests the resolve of everyone involved. The sheriff and Erica intervene, preventing the tragedy from escalating further, and the town finally accepts that justice will come through the system rather than revenge.

The narrative closes with an official note: Ed was charged with two of the ten murders attributed to him, but was found unfit to stand trial. He spent the remainder of his life in a mental institution, where he succumbed to cancer in 1984, ending a dark chapter in Plainfield’s history.
