Dragon Tiger Gate 2006

Dragon Wong, Nicholas Tse Ting-Fung, and Tiger Wong, Donnie Yen, are brothers bound by a shared shadow over the Dragon Tiger Gate academy, a sanctuary founded by two legendary martial artists to train those who uphold justice and protect children orphaned by the Triad. Dragon’s mother, [Sheren Tang Shui-Man], leaves him half of a Jade amulet pendant and reveals that Tiger holds the other half. After she dies in a fire, Dragon is taken in by Ma Kun, [Chen Kuan-Tai], a ruthless Triad boss, and grows up as his loyal bodyguard. Ma Kun’s gang is tied to the Luocha Cult, a Pan-Asian drug operation led by Shibumi, [Yu Kang], who commands fearsome kung fu masters and rules the underground market from Hong Kong.

Years later, a tense restaurant encounter pulls the brothers into the shadow war. Tiger and his friends are dining when Ma Kun’s men arrive to deliver the Luocha Plaque, an emblem of authority second only to Shibumi. A skirmish erupts as Tiger’s group clashes with Ma Kun’s, and in the chaos a companion absconds with the plaque. Dragon appears and clashes with his half-brother, unaware of their blood tie, while Ma Kun signals Dragon to retreat. That night, Scaly, [Vincent Sze Cho-Lam], Ma Kun’s ruthless henchman, drugs Dragon and Tiger to weaken them, hoping to prove his own strength. Turbo Shek, [Shawn Yue Man-Lok], another diner, is drawn into the fight and backs Dragon’s side. Dragon defeats Scaly and his followers and reclaim the plaque, and Tiger learns that Dragon possesses the other half of the jade amulet.

Turbo, eager to sharpen his skills, seeks admission to Dragon Tiger Gate. Master Wong, [Yuen Wah], the academy’s stern leader, tests his resolve but initially rejects him for arrogance. After a tough spar, Turbo is humbled, earns Master Wong’s respect, and becomes a student.

Meanwhile, Ma Kun chooses to retire, aided by Dragon, who wants to return to Dragon Tiger Gate, and his daughter Ma Xiaoling, [Dong Jie], who longs for a simpler life. Shibumi sees this as an insult and sends his deadly Double Devils after Ma Kun. He also uses Rosa, [Li Xiaoran], to lure Dragon away while his henchmen close in. Dragon races back to defend Ma Kun, but it is too late. Dragon defeats the Double Devils, leaving Ma Xiaoling in Tiger’s care, and collapses from his wounds. He has a vision of his younger self giving him the jade pendant and clings to the hope of reunion.

Shibumi, impressed by Dragon’s earlier triumphs, travels to Dragon Tiger Gate to issue a challenge. With Dragon absent, Master Wong, Tiger, and Turbo face Shibumi, but they are outmatched. Master Wong earns a brief moment of respect for holding his ground, yet Shibumi defeats him. He spares Tiger and Turbo for their stubbornness, while the looming threat remains. Seeing the danger ahead, Ma Xiaoling leads Tiger and Turbo to Mount Baiyun to seek help from Master Qi, [Tony Wong Yuk-Long], while Dragon senses Wong’s demise and returns to a fallen gate. Master Qi heals the wounded Tiger and Turbo and trains them in new techniques—the Spinning Lightning Dragon Kick and the Invulnerable Golden Bell Technique—while Dragon refines his own skills for a final clash.

Tiger and Turbo storm Shibumi’s Black Pagoda, pushing their newly honed abilities to the limit in a fierce duel. They are far from defeated, but Shibumi still outmatches them. As he readies to finish them, Dragon returns, tossing the Luocha Plaque back in honor of the Gate and drawing Shibumi away from his injured allies. In a calm, devastating duel, Dragon unleashes the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms and defeats Shibumi. With the villain fallen, Dragon returns to Dragon Tiger Gate alongside Tiger and Turbo—who chooses to rename himself Leopard—to continue Master Wong’s legacy.
