Andy writes the local newspaper’s classified advertisements and has been hopping from one relationship to another since eighth grade. His love life is a revolving door, and it all comes to a head when his girlfriend, Cheryl, leaves him for a punk rocker named Trevor, taking away custody of their shared dog. The breakup marks a turning point in a pattern that has followed him through years of dating, heartbreak, and fragile alliances.

After the split, Andy crosses paths with Lorna, a bright-eyed host of a children’s TV show. Yet Lorna is wrapped up in her own world—she adores her dog and remains emotionally fragile because Trevor left her for Cheryl. They meet in a bar, and there’s instant chemistry as Andy drives Lorna home, hoping for something more. The moment they kiss almost feels like it could spark something lasting, but a sudden bout of nausea from Lorna brings the moment to an abrupt halt, leaving both of them uncertain about what comes next.

Knowing Lorna works for the TV station, Andy can’t resist reaching out—he sends flowers, writes a note asking for a relationship, and even phones, only to have Lorna decide not to pursue anything further. Undeterred, he pivots to a new tactic: he enters himself in a dating auction. In the meantime, Lorna spends some time alone before finally agreeing to a date with Callum, the patient clerk from the video store. The date isn’t memorable, but Callum leaves a thoughtful message on her machine that helps her reassess what she wants.

Meanwhile, Andy becomes involved with the winner of the auction—Kieran, a vegan nutritionist who believes that a lot of sex can be beneficial. Their relationship adds another layer to Andy’s complicated love life, even as Cheryl and Andy seek to share custody of their dog. A veterinary totem of sorts enters their story when a psychiatrist explains that their dog is traumatized by the rough intimacy occurring near the animal, complicating the already delicate custody arrangement.

As the custody battle unfolds, new tensions arise: Cheryl and Trevor break up, and she tries, unsuccessfully, to win Andy back. On a double date, Kieran notices something off about Jeri’s boyfriend, Jeff—his body language on the phone betrays an affair. The plot thickens when Rachel attends the obedience school graduation to see Jeff’s dogs receive their diplomas; a dog dashes toward Rachel, and Jeri deduces the truth of the affair. The couple breaks up, and Andy goes to offer his support to Jeri during her time of need.

By this point, both Andy and Lorna harbor genuine feelings for each other, but neither is sure how to proceed. The stories with Kieran and Callum—and the emotional echoes of past relationships—help them come to a decisive realization. The pair reunite with the resolve to explore what they could mean to one another. They meet again at the same bar where their first encounter began, exactly 100 days later, and, this time, they choose to begin a relationship together, stepping forward with a clearer sense of what they want from love and from each other.
