Master Dinanth (Amitabh Bachchan), a 1942 freedom fighter who helped win India’s 1947 independence, watches patriotism wane after freedom. He exposes Thakur Pratab Singh’s (Amjad Khan) illegal arms smuggling and secures his arrest. In revenge, Singh’s henchman Sher Singh (Kader Khan) kidnaps Dinanth’s wife Bharati (Sharmila Tagore) and daughter Priti (Parveen Babi). Accused by villagers of betrayal, Dinanth flees with his son Raju. Bharati contracts leprosy, escapes, leaving Priti with a friend.
