Akash is an honest and educated young man, employed by the Bombay Municipal Corporation as a clerk. He lives with his brother Dinanath, his sister-in-law, a niece, Sharda, and a nephew, in a tight-knit but financially strained household. Because of Akash’s unwavering integrity, he becomes a liability to his corrupt superiors who rely on graft to grease the wheels of the system. Dharamdas tries to bribe Akash, but he refuses, standing firm on principle even as the pressure around him intensifies. Chanda, a young woman with deep feelings for Akash, makes her affection clear, and he recognizes the sincerity of her stance, choosing to acknowledge their connection.

Dharamdas hatches a scheme to corrupt the banking process: he plans to hand Dinanath money to deposit, instructing his assistant that goons will ambush him on the way and frame him for the crime. Dinanath uncovers the plot and, in a risky move, retrieves the money from the locker and disappears, prompting Dharamdas to realize that the plan has gone off the rails. The thief’s actions set off a chain reaction of suspicion, and Dharamdas learns that the money theft has left a crack in his carefully laid plans. The situation worsens when Akash’s work is publicly faulted, leading to a board meeting where colleagues accuse him of demanding bribes from Dharamdas and vote to dismiss him.
