Amar Manohar [Aamir Khan] is a daydreamer who lives with his father Murli [Deven Verma], while Prem Bhopali [Salman Khan] shares a similar disposition and lives with his father Bankelal [Jagdeep]. The two dreamers soon learn that Ram Gopal Bajaj [Paresh Rawal], a wealthy man, has a daughter, Raveena Bajaj [Raveena Tandon], who is traveling from London with her secretary Karishma [Karisma Kapoor], in search of a suitable groom. Motivated by the lure of a share in the family fortune, Amar and Prem set their sights on winning the two girls.
The rivals cross paths when they jump on a bus heading to Ooty, where Raveena and Karishma reside. It doesn’t take long for them to realize they’re chasing the same prize, and after a few failed attempts to charm their targets, they somehow manage to slip into the household. Amar [Aamir Khan] pretends to have lost his memory and eyesight after a playful knock-out by Raveena, while Prem [Salman Khan] poses as a doctor in the house to “treat” him—only to discover that he has fallen for Karishma [Karisma Kapoor] in the process.
Meanwhile, Ram Gopal Bajaj has an evil twin, Shyam Gopal “Teja” Bajaj, who plots to kidnap him and assume his identity to travel to London. Teja enlists two shady followers, Robert [Viju Khote] and Bhalla [Shehzad Khan], to blend in as servants in the girls’ home. As the plot thickens, Amar and Prem stumble upon a real swap: Karishma is the wealthy Raveena, and the wealthy Raveena is the secretary Karishma. Both men still fall for the “real” person they’ve chosen, with Amar loving the genuine Karishma and Prem loving the genuine Raveena.
Ram Gopal arrives back in India and, recognizing the truth about Amar and Prem, declines their marriages to Raveena and Karishma. In response, the trio concocts a fake kidnapping scheme to salvage the situation and win their brides. Teja then schemes with Robert and Bhalla to kidnap Ram Gopal and siphon off his diamonds, setting off a new scramble of loyalties and escapes. Robert and Bhalla manage to seize Ram Gopal, shocking Amar and Prem.
In a frenetic raid on Teja’s hideout, the heroes mistake Teja for Ram Gopal and haul him back to his own home, where chaos ensues. The next day, Raveena and Karishma voice their suspicions and trail Teja to his hideout, where Ram Gopal plays a trick; Teja escapes, and in a tangled turn of events, Amar and Prem end up imprisoning Ram Gopal again—only for Teja to imprison Amar and Prem in turn before slipping away.
With help from Robert and Bhalla, Amar and Prem manage to convince them that Ram Gopal is Teja and free the real Bajaj. An escaped Teja is then confronted by the foursome, halting his flight. The problem escalates as Crime Master GoGo [Shakti Kapoor] tracks down the diamonds and abducts Ram Gopal, along with Raveena and Karishma, prompting a climactic confrontation.
GoGo’s hideout becomes the stage for a comic standoff where the heroes, Ram Gopal, and the captured lovers collide with the villains’ schemes. The police finally storm in, arresting GoGo, Teja, and the other criminals, and Ram Gopal retrieves his diamonds. In the end, Ram Gopal agrees to the marriages of Amar with the real Karishma and Prem with the real Raveena, as everyone heads toward a cheerful, if chaotic, happily-ever-after.
