Raja, Akshay Kumar, is a good-for-nothing loafer who dreams of getting rich quick. He decides to impersonate a college professor to infiltrate a campus full of wealthy, glamorous women. He soon catches the eye of a rich student, Pooja, Urmila Matondkar. The plan starts to work as he bluffs his way through lectures and social events, and for a moment it seems like his ticket out of poverty might actually be within reach.

Prakash, Pooja’s father, Anupam Kher, finds himself under threat from Rocky, a ruthless and merciless criminal who extorts money by using fear and violence. When Prakash pleads for help, Raja decides to step into Rocky’s shoes to uncover the criminal’s secrets and squeeze some money out of Prakash’s situation. The ruse quickly spirals out of control, because the real Rocky is sharper and more dangerous than Raja anticipated, and he quickly figures out that someone is masquerading as him.

Raja wakes up to a brutal wake-up call: he has been kidnapped and held by Rocky and his goons. He learns that over the past seven days, Rocky has posed as Raja, winning the trust of Raja’s friends, his mother Farida Jalal, and Pooja, and is now poised to marry her. Rocky stages a spectacular scheme, robbing a bank to frame Raja as Rocky and eliminating his own henchmen while tragically wounding Raja’s girlfriend Sonia. The trap tightens as Raja convinces an honest officer to believe his story, giving him a narrow 24-hour window to prove he is the real Raja.

Raja crashes the wedding where the truth finally surfaces: Sonia reveals the deception and the plot behind Rocky’s impersonation. Desperate, Rocky escapes with Pooja as a hostage, forcing Raja to chase him through a perilous, multi-story building. The climactic battle is brutal and closely fought, but Raja gains the upper hand and pushes Rocky off the building, sealing Rocky’s death. In the end, Raja restores his own sense of identity, outwits the criminal world, and marries Pooja, stepping into a future that finally looks earned and earned honestly.
