The film opens with a childhood abduction scene that later resurfaces as a memory for Eric Rainer. When a neighbor interrupts, [Eric Rainer] clams up and retreats inside, only to have his girlfriend break up with him moments later, tired of his obsession with alien abductions and his thesis that UFOs are a form of modern mythology. Her departure pushes him into a numb, almost trance-like state, where the world around him quiets and his focus narrows to the color of her lips as they move.

A late-night jog ends with [Eric Rainer] collapsing into sleep on the sofa, where a nightmare of alien abduction returns him to the moment of Lisa’s disappearance, culminating in a vision of a strange creature carrying her away. When he wakes, Lisa is truly missing, yet he—falteringly—tries to convince himself that everything is fine. His search leads him to Beth, who introduces herself as Harold’s niece and becomes a driving force in pushing him to investigate what happened to Lisa. Beth’s persistence gives [Eric Rainer] a new direction, while a wary Dr. Connell—whom [Eric Rainer] calls his “Professor”—keeps a cautious eye on him, popping in to check on his mental state.

Joined by Beth on the investigation, [Eric Rainer] encounters three people who seem to morph into strange creatures in a way that mirrors reports of shape-shifting aliens. After narrowly escaping the first, he is driven into a grim necessity: he is compelled to kill the next two, first a UFO “expert” Beth convinces him to meet and then Cindy, Lisa’s sister who keeps asking questions that threaten to unravel their cover. As they grow closer, [Eric Rainer] and Beth become lovers, and their perilous pursuit leads them to the old, abandoned radio tower perched on a hill outside town—an ominous beacon at the center of the mystery.

Inside the Tower, a hidden key—delivered in a way that feels almost telepathic—lets [Eric Rainer] break in and uncover two dead bodies: both are people he has killed. Confused and terrified, he encounters Harold, whose nosy behavior now feels like a warning sign—Harold tries to persuade [Eric Rainer] that aliens are controlling him, but the plea fails to break through. In a brutal turn, [Eric Rainer] knocks Harold unconscious and then searches for Beth, only to discover that Beth has vanished back at the truck. A ringing phone from inside the Tower pulls him toward the dead bodies, and he uncovers Lisa’s corpse, stabbed with a knife. Flashing cuts suggest that [Eric Rainer] himself was the killer, plunging him back into the same silenced state from earlier as he staggers outside.

Back on the ground, Harold—injured and clutching a knife—pleads with [Eric Rainer] to see that the aliens are pulling the strings, but the truth remains elusive as [Eric Rainer] delivers a grave, almost ceremonial wound and disarms Harold, removing an organ in a disturbing display. A montage then hints that Beth was the fabrication—the thing [Eric Rainer] was made to believe—and the act of handing Harold’s organ to an unseen force mirrors the nightmare that began it all. The final turn of the film returns [Eric Rainer] to the waiting truck where Beth is calmly waiting, her gaze insinuating a deeper, darker implication.

In the film’s closing beat, Beth hints at visiting Dr. Connell, a suggestion that [Eric Rainer] remembers only as belonging to “my professor.” With that fragment of memory, he surrenders to the situation, climbs into the truck, and drives off toward Dr. Connell’s location—already convinced of nothing but the need to eliminate the last person connected to the chain of events. The story ends on a chilling note, leaving the fate of all involved shrouded in ambiguity and the sense that the line between belief and manipulation was never more than a heartbeat away.
