Balu Vijay comes to Chennai from Coimbatore and stays with his friend Gopal Goundamani, who claims he has a job but is also unemployed. The two are tenants of a girl named Sumithra Sanghavi. At first, Balu and Sumithra clash and argue, but their sharp exchanges gradually soften, and what begins as conflict slowly blooms into affection. Amid this evolving dynamic, Sumithra’s cousin Mahesh Karan also loves her, adding a layer of tension to the growing relationship.

One day, Balu witnesses a thief stealing a necklace. When he tries to intervene, the thief slips the necklace into Balu’s pocket, and Balu is wrongly blamed for the theft. This incident sours Sumithra’s feelings toward him, sowing seeds of mistrust. Seizing on the rift, Mahesh orchestrates trouble by hiring goons to attack them and frames Balu for the violence, deepening the sense that their romance may be doomed.

Seeking truth and relief from his past, Balu shares his painful backstory with his grandmother Paattiamma: he lost his mother when he was very young and endured harsh treatment from his stepmother, which drove him to run away from home. Paattiamma believes his account, offering quiet support, yet Mahesh doubles down on his schemes, arranging a fall that leaves Paattiamma paralyzed by wires set up by the schemer.

In the hospital, Sumithra overhears Mahesh and his father plotting to kill her to seize their colony, a revelation that heightens the stakes for everyone involved. Balu steps up to cover the medical bills, and in a moment of despair attempts to take his own life, only to be saved by Sumithra’s timely intervention. The confrontation with Mahesh reaches a climactic point when Mahesh is caught in a stampede and dies, ending his twisted vendetta.

With the storm finally past, Balu and Sumithra find themselves facing a future together, choosing love and resilience over fear. The narrative closes on a note of companionship and happiness, underscoring how truth, courage, and mutual support can triumph over manipulation and hardship.
