A well‑liked junior excels on the football field, plays in the school orchestra and has a steady girlfriend. When the school doctor diagnoses him with partial deafness, he is removed from the team on medical advice. His teammates rally to keep him playing, but he retreats from his passions, isolates himself and begins to drift toward a troublesome crowd while wrestling with his new limitation and the strain on his relationships.
