Edison, Carrot Top, is a poor, failed inventor and surf bum who has spent his rent money on another fruitless creation. Facing eviction from his short-tempered landlady Ms. Krubavitch Estelle Harris, he is pressed by his roommates Mystro Clark as Ty and Jack Plotnick as Zak to find steady work. After bouncing between a string of dead-end gigs, Edison crosses paths with a wealthy magnate, Armand McMillan, whose car breaks down on the roadside. Edison uses his inventions to assist Armand, and the pair strike up a friendship—bonding over a shared love of surfing as they ride the waves together.

Months later, a letter arrives announcing McMillan’s death. In a pre-recorded message, he reveals that he is leaving Edison 45% of his vast invention empire, McMillan Industries, while his nephew Bradford Larry Miller is left with only a surfboard. Edison’s rise begins as he steps into the chairmanship, but Bradford, consumed by jealousy, plots to derail his progress. A bright spot comes when Edison enjoys a successful date with his coworker Natalie Stockwell Courtney Thorne-Smith, and soon after he unveils his most ambitious creation yet—the Chef Edison line of TV dinners that come with a built‑in television. The product catapults the company to new heights, and Edison’s wealth flows, yet with success comes a growing sense of selfishness.

Trouble strikes when a customer claims radiation poisoning and a green glow on his body, crashing McMillan Industries’ stock and prompting Bradford to seize control once again, planning to cash out. Edison returns home to an eviction notice and finds his surfboard and other possessions repossessed. In a moment of inspiration, he discovers a canister of his old glow-in-the-dark makeup, Glo-Gunk, intended for late-night surfing. Realizing that radiation poisoning would sickeningly harm a person rather than cause a literal glow, Edison concludes that the poisoning claim was a fabrication and that Bradford is behind it. He, Ty, and Zak rush back to the company to confront the culprit.

They storm the boardroom and reveal the ruse, demonstrating the Glo-Gunk’s effects to prove his case. Bradford denies wrongdoing, but the truth comes out when he is exposed by [Bull-shirt], a shirt with a built-in lie detector that Edison unveils in the moment. Bradford is halted, and Grace Kosik [Raquel Welch] agrees to testify against him, ensuring the company’s future is secured. With the crisis averted, Edison reclaims his footing and appoints Natalie—now his girlfriend—to run the company, signaling a more balanced path forward for McMillan Industries and its innovative legacy. The story closes on Edison navigating his renewed responsibility, his partnership with Natalie, and the lingering thrill of invention that keeps him chasing the next big idea.
