After a robbery leaves a bank’s vault empty, Egbert Sousé unintentionally becomes a hero when a fleeing robber trips over the bench he’s sitting on. Praised for his bravery, Egbert is hired as a bank guard. He is then approached by the con‑artist J. Frothingham Waterbury, who offers him shares in a dubious mining venture. Convincing teller Og Oggilby to loan him bank funds, Egbert plans to repay them once the scheme succeeds—until the sudden arrival of the meticulous bank inspector Snoopington threatens to expose everything.
