J.I. ‘Pop’ Jones, Morris Ankrum, inherits a piece of family land in Montana and moves with his daughter, Sierra Nevada Jones Barbara Stanwyck, to the frontier. Along the trail, Sierra Nevada Jones bathes in a pond and encounters Farrell Ronald Reagan, a hired gunman who warns her about dangerous Indians nearby. Farrell is on his way to work for Tom McCord Gene Evans, a wealthy rancher.
