The cartoon opens with Bimbo as a sailor, strumming a cheerful ukulele while cruising in a small motorboat. His ride accelerates with a lively speed until disaster strikes: the boat slams into a tropical Hawaii shore, and Bimbo is violently thrown from the wreck. He washes up on a second boat that’s manned by Betty Boop Mae Questel, who appears as a dark-skinned island princess adorned with a lei, a striking image that sets a bold, surreal tone for the adventure.
Bimbo introduces himself with a song, and the two share a moment of music before they plunge over a waterfall. The fall launches them into a sunlit clearing where a group of spirited trees begin to sing an eerie, haunting melody, creating an uncanny backdrop for what unfolds next. A contingent of native warriors approaches, and Bimbo instinctively disguises himself by muttering dirt across his face to appear darker and by sticking a bone in his hair, a quick, risky costume change that buys him a short window of safety.
At first, the natives seem poised to attack, but their mood shifts after they hear Bimbo sing. They treat him as an honored guest, and Betty is welcomed into their circle as well. The two are entertained, and Betty treats Bimbo to a lively hula dance that adds a playful rhythm to the moment, even as the rain begins to fall. The sudden downpour washes away Bimbo’s crude disguise, and the locals’ curiosity gives way to suspicion once more. The mood turns tense, and the duo must flee as their pursuers close in, forcing them to race toward the safety of Bimbo’s motorboat for a narrow escape.
With danger lingering but a glimmer of freedom in sight, they press on, dodging pursuit and pressing their luck as the shore recedes behind them. In a brief, intimate moment that contrasts with the peril, the two slip behind an umbrella for privacy, sharing a quiet, private kiss as the world around them swirls with color, sound, and the lingering promise of further adventures together.
