Born Maurice Cole in 1940s Liverpool, he faces bullying while creating comedy tapes that start his career. As Kenny Everett he joins BBC Radio 1. He marries Lee Middleton, who backs him through career setbacks and his confession of being gay. After coming out, he is diagnosed HIV‑positive in 1989 and dies of AIDS in 1995 at age 50.
