Karim, played by Mahbub Alam, is a 27-year-old Bangladeshi working tirelessly at an industrial laundry in South Korea. Despite his hard work, he faces numerous challenges, including an unrecognized academic degree from his homeland, which limits his opportunities. His work permit is nearing expiration, and he is also owed a year’s worth of wages by his former employer, Shin, who is unresponsive and difficult to contact. Meanwhile, Karim’s wife back in Bangladesh is burdening him with financial stress, adding to his sense of frustration and helplessness.

On the other side of the story is Min-seo, a 17-year-old high school girl portrayed by Baek Jin-hee. She is characterized as a social loner, often feeling at odds with her mother, Eun-joo, played by Lee Il-hwa. Eun-joo is unemployed and lives with her boyfriend Ki-hong, portrayed by Park Hyuk-kwon, whom she intends to marry. Despite her mother’s efforts, Min-seo’s family struggles financially, making it difficult for her to afford after-school classes or English lessons, which her peers easily access through paid study institutes. To support her education and dreams, Min-seo takes an under-the-table job at a massage parlor, risking her safety but willing to do whatever it takes to improve her future.

The story takes a pivotal turn on the first day of summer vacation when Min-seo is riding a bus and Karim accidentally drops his wallet. Seeing an opportunity, Min-seo takes the wallet for herself but soon realizes her mistake when Karim spots her and quickly chases her down in a nearby alley. In fluent Korean, Karim suggests they go to the police station, but Min-seo, desperate and seeking to avoid trouble, tries to convince him to overlook the incident by implying she can offer him a favor instead. After some hesitation, Karim agrees, and together they embark on a mission to find his former boss, whom he still needs to settle scores with.

The pair then pose as loan sharks in their search, leading them into an unexpected and touching alliance. During their adventures, Karim begins sharing insights about the problems facing South Korean society, while Min-seo becomes increasingly curious about his life. Their relationship starts off as pragmatic—the girl sees Karim as a symbol of her rebellion against societal constraints—yet as they spend more time together, it evolves into a genuine friendship. Both characters, initially lonely and guarded, find solace and understanding in each other’s company.

Throughout their journey, a recurring sense of urgency hovers over Karim, as his visa status threatens to cut his stay short in Korea. Their bond grows deeper, revealing shared feelings of isolation, longing, and the need for connection. This compelling story highlights themes of immigration, cultural displacement, and the unlikely bonds that can be forged between two strangers thrown together by circumstance but united by human empathy. Their unlikely friendship becomes a poignant reminder of the importance of compassion, patience, and understanding amidst life’s struggles and societal gaps.
