Veerababu, an aspiring filmmaker in the making, stumbles upon an expensive camera left in his auto. He tries to monetize the find first, considering selling it or renting it out to settle the loan on his rickshaw. But a spark of inspiration shifts his plan. After catching a TV program about lucrative, low-budget films, he decides to transform this unexpected discovery into a real movie project of his own.

He teams up with Ganapathi, a skilled still photographer, and the two set out to turn the idea into practice. The duo broadens their crew by choosing a very human, grounded cast for the leads: a barber named Maridayya, who adopts the screen name Maridesh Babu, and a schoolgirl named Divya. The plan is simple in ambition but ambitious in scope: shoot a love story right in the heart of their village, using the camera as their only ticket to cinema. They throw themselves into the process with fresh energy, eager to prove that passion can outrun experience.

Yet the road to filmmaking is paved with challenges. Their inexperience shows in missteps and constant interruptions from the village, which slow down the shoot but also underscore the communal nature of the project. Just when momentum seems possible, Divya’s father arranges a marriage for her, and she elopes with her boyfriend. The setback sparks a wave of blame directed at Veerababu, but he remains steadfast, refusing to abandon the project. In a turn of resilience, the team finds a replacement in Manga—Maridesh’s girlfriend—and restarts the filming with renewed resolve.

Meanwhile, Sindhu, the woman who lost the camera, becomes determined to recover it at any cost. She and her friend begin a village-and-studio-wide search, asking questions, tracing leads, and peering into photo studios, all in pursuit of the missing device. As the shoot progresses, the villagers rally behind the effort, lending their support to the rising production.

During a shot from the top of a tree, misfortune strikes: the camera slips and crashes onto the old man’s head, breaking into pieces. He is rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident triggers finger-pointing—Veerababu accuses Ganapathi of mishap—yet the village still wants the film completed. In a cooperative surge, the villagers pool their resources to pay for a repair, and Ganapathi hands the camera to a local photo studio for fixes. The studio owner, however, notifies Sindhu, who abruptly takes back the camera and leaves, leaving Veerababu and his team in the lurch.

Despite the setback and Sindhu’s initial frustration, a surprising turn happens. When Sindhu finally views the film footage on the memory card, she is struck by the quality of what they captured. Rather than discarding the work, she steps in to edit the material and arranges for a screening in the village. The result is a moment of shared joy: the villagers watch the finished product projected before them, and their elation is palpable. With renewed belief in the project, Sindhu borrows another camera and lends her support to Veerababu and his crew to push the film across the finish line.

In the end, a quiet, contemplative moment unfolds: Sindhu asks the old man if he really wrote the story they set out to tell. His reply is a humbling confession of limitation and mystery: he cannot even read.
