In Rome, a 22-year-old named Phaim, Phaim Bhuiyan, tries to balance his Bengali heritage with the religious demands of Islam, especially during Ramadan, while falling for Asia, Carlotta Antonelli, a progressive Italian girl who challenges his world.
Phaim was born in Rome; he and his friends speak Italian, but his parents are traditional, and he keeps his relationship hidden from them. He works in a museum and, in his free time, performs with his band at small events, keeping the music alive as a source of belonging.
He meets Asia at his band’s first proper gig, and their relationship begins to blossom against the backdrop of family and friends. He introduction to her world is warm and chaotic, as he encounters her eccentric family and her circle of friends. Yet trouble arrives when he gets drunk for the first time and ends up insulting her, a moment that strain the budding romance and forces him to confront the consequences of his actions.
As the story unfolds, Phaim discovers that his sister, Milena Mancini Marzia, and his bandmate Simone Liberati Matteo are both reluctantly engaged in arranged marriages. This discovery pushes him toward an arranged date with a Bengali girl, Mala, Naya Manson, highlighting the tension between personal choice and cultural expectations. They joke about their other partners, but nothing ever develops beyond that banter.
Meanwhile, his parents decide to move to London, a decision that unsettles the family’s dynamics. The ex-bandmate who has already relocated there says life isn’t great, prompting Phaim to move back to Rome. This homecoming brings renewed energy to the band, and they deliver a strong performance at a Bengali wedding, with Phaim on stage and Asia occupying his thoughts as he imagines their life together.
The emotional pivot comes at the mosque, where the Imam who had once counseled Phaim to abandon his relationship with Asia reveals a personal confession: he was in a relationship with an Italian girl he loved but regrets ending. This revelation shakes Phaim, directing him to rush to Asia’s apartment, where the two share a passionate, undeniable moment that rekindles their connection and leaves the future uncertain but vivid with possibility.
