Bad Bascomb 1946

Bad Bascomb, [Wallace Beery], is a notorious outlaw who has outwitted every pursuit the federal marshals send after him. He and Bart Yancy, a cold-blooded killer, [J. Carrol Naish], manage to slip away once more by taking shelter with a Mormon wagon train bound for Utah. When Bascomb and Yancy discover the wagon train is carrying a fortune in gold hidden in one of the wagons, they decide to stay with the group rather than flee, hoping to lay their hands on the treasure without raising suspicion.

A rambunctious little girl named Emmy, [Margaret O’Brien], attaches herself to Bascomb, while her grandmother Abbey Hanks, [Marjorie Main], also takes a liking to the outlaw. The two men begin to perform various chores for the Mormons, all the while scheming to search for the gold, using their cover to bide their time. As Bascomb grows closer to Emmy, he also forms a soft spot for Abbey Hanks, whose lively spirit and stubborn warmth soften his hard edge.

Gradually, Bascomb renounces his criminal life and decides to protect the people around him, even as Yancy pushes to steal the gold. The pair’s tension comes to a head when Bascomb foils Yancy’s attempt to pilfer the treasure.
