Arai Enn 305-Il Kadavul 2008

In a crowded hostel, Raasu (Santhanam) and Mokkai (Ganja Karuppu) share a small, noisy space with a colorful mix of residents—a stern Professor Mani (Madhan Bob), a devout atheist named Thanjai Rudran (Rajesh), a talented poet, and a crew of other unemployed men trying to make ends meet. Raasu works at a coffee shop and is stubbornly in love with Mahishasuramardhini (Madhumitha), who seems to ignore his advances. Raasu’s quiet persistence is tested when Mahishasuramardhini’s brother confronts him after he stays too long around her home. Mokkai, left without steady work due to limited schooling, dreams of marrying his village cousin and rebuilding a life back home.

One disastrous day changes everything: Mokkai is arrested and beaten by female police officers, and Raasu’s claims of a high‑paying job crumble, shocking Mahishasuramardhini. The two are kicked out of the hostel for unpaid rent. On their last night, fuelled by frustration, they vent their grievances toward Kadavul (God). To their astonishment, Kadavul arrives, initially mistaken for another unemployed man by the pair. By morning, Kadavul reveals His true identity after appearing in the forms of Vishnu, Jesus, and Buddha, leaving Raasu and Mokkai to face a surprising truth about their own struggles and opportunities.

Armed with a galaxy box—a device that acts as a powerful, almost magical source of knowledge—Kadavul makes a bold offer. He will spend time with the two, using the guise of Arnold and the imagined uncle figure, to observe their daily lives and guide them. The aim is to determine whether their poverty stems from fate, or from their own choices. Kadavul also convinces the hostel owner to extend Raasu and Mokkai’s stay for a week, setting the stage for a transformative bet.

As the days unfold, Raasu and Mokkai learn from Kadavul’s actions and teachings, gaining fresh insights into their choices and the consequences they’ve faced. Meanwhile, Wellesley Prabhu (Ilavarasu) accidentally uncovers Arnold’s true identity but is persuaded to stay quiet. On the final night, the two friends steal Kadavul’s galaxy box and use it to better themselves, a development that leaves the true God to lead a modest, ordinary life within the same hostel. Their families, though gifted with improved circumstances, remain wary and not fully grateful, and the two brothers begin to realize the fragility of such wealth and recognition.

This hard lesson is reinforced when Raasu is again rejected by Mahishasuramardhini, who turns out to be a prostitute. The shock of this revelation prompts him to rethink his priorities, and Prabhu eventually recovers the box and returns it to Arnold. Forgiven, Raasu and Mokkai vow to reform, and they do slowly find success in life, along with Prabhu and several other characters.

Years pass, and Arnold returns to help another group of youngsters facing hardship. This time, he keeps the galaxy box bound in chains in his pocket to prevent theft or misuse. He ends the story with a quiet, knowing smile toward the camera, signaling a new beginning for them all.
