In 1985, amidst the shadows of Moscow, the relentless KGB, led by Vassiliev, embarks on a chilling mission to eliminate several CIA operatives working within Russian borders. In a gruesome display of power, the severed heads of these agents are sent to the US Embassy as a stark warning.

Fast forward three years later, we meet Anna (Sasha Luss), a strikingly beautiful woman trapped in a cycle of domestic abuse, sufferings inflicted by her boyfriend Petyr (Alexander Petrov). Anna finds herself devoid of purpose and nearly gives up on life. Pressured into stealing money from the credit cards of a kidnapped foreigner, she initially resists but is ultimately beaten into submission by Petyr.

In a fateful twist, Anna reluctantly accepts an offer from KGB officer Alex, who sees potential in her military lineage, as her father had also served in the Navy. He convinces her to commit to five years of service within the KGB, despite her initial desire to join the Russian Navy. Under the watchful eye of Olga, a seasoned KGB handler, Anna undergoes rigorous training over the course of a year, preparing for her dark new role.

Olga, skeptical of Anna’s capabilities, views her merely as a stunning façade fit for a honey trap. However, Anna surprises her with her remarkable strategic skills, particularly in chess. Tasked with assassinating a prominent Russian drug lord in under five minutes, Anna is unaware that the gun she possesses is unloaded. Surrounded by a vast entourage of bodyguards, she fiercely battles her way through them, ultimately succeeding in her mission, albeit a minute later than the assigned time. While Olga classifies her as a failure, she sees potential and decides to give her another chance, as Anna bravely refuses to embody a victim mentality.

Despite her training, the powerful KGB head, Vassiliev, expresses doubts about Anna, suggesting that the only way out of his organization is through death. Olga deftly sways Vassiliev by arguing that few agents last five years in her division. Seeing Anna as a liability without any ties to Russia, she devises a plan to have Anna go undercover as a fashion model in Paris.

Once in Paris, Anna navigates the modeling world while secretly fulfilling various missions, effectively using a body double to remain undetected by both the CIA and local law enforcement. Her deception is closely monitored by Olga. During her missions, she entangles herself in a romantic relationship with Maud (Lera Abova), a cover that assists her in maintaining her covert operations.

As Anna juggles her dangerous assignments, her worries about Vassiliev’s threats persist. She develops a relationship with Alex during her operations, expressing her desire for freedom after five years of service. However, as the CIA begins to close in, Anna opts to work as a double agent under Agent Miller, who promises her the chance for immediate retirement in Hawaii after one year in exchange for valuable intelligence.

In a lethal turn of events, Miller instructs her to eliminate Vassiliev, aiming for a smoother relationship between the KGB and the CIA. Anna carries out the assassination, shocking both agencies while orchestrating her escape from the KGB. Although she spares Alex’s life, she fails to rendezvous with Miller, raising suspicions that she has gone rogue.

In a twist, Anna manages to set up a meeting with Alex and Miller, bargaining for a six-month reprieve using crucial intel stolen from both sides. However, fate takes another dark turn when she is ambushed by Olga, who fatally wounds her for betraying the KGB. Yet Anna outsmarts them all, leveraging a body double, Nastya Sten, to fake her own demise and slip away into the shadows.

Ultimately, it is revealed that Olga had quietly discovered Anna’s CIA ties and the planned hit on Vassiliev. Collaboratively, they concoct a plan to deceive both agencies, allowing Olga to rise in power while securing Anna’s freedom. As a parting gift, Anna leaves a video message for Olga, filled with gratitude, but also a warning that she possesses evidence of Olga’s involvement in Vassiliev’s assassination, should her loyalty ever waver.
