When two Mexican fishermen are found dead, Detective David Hodges Joseph Bologna, a loner by choice, begins a stubborn investigation. A severed leg points the trail toward an alligator attack, a discovery that leads Hodges’s wife, Christine Hodges Dee Wallace, a university expert, and the coroner to connect the incidents. The town’s leaders—Mayor Anderson Bill Daily and Chief Speed Brock Peters—refuse to call off Brown’s lake party, forcing Hodges to press them for action.
