Jesse Turner, Ryan Thomas Johnson, is an orphaned teenage hacker who tries to steal dynamite at the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. His uncle Joe Walker, Guy Boyd, a site worker, stops him, but that night an eerie spate of animal-like attacks sweeps through the facility’s mess hall, killing everyone except Jesse. As the dust settles, the facility falls silent and the communications go dead, thrusting the surviving staff into an uncertain, high-stakes mystery.

A civilian repair team is dispatched to diagnose the problem, led by Major Tom McQuade, Cliff DeYoung of the Department of Defense. He explains that Yucca Mountain is a military-operated uranium mine, usually off-limits to civilians, but the facility has a strict schedule and the closest team available has to move in. The group splits: three head to the control room to attempt a reboot, while the other three organize a search party. They locate Jesse, catatonic and shaken, and bring him back to the control room to regroup.

From the control room, the team discovers that the communication issues cannot be resolved remotely; the problem seems to require a descent into the lower, more restricted levels of the complex. Despite reservations from McQuade, they press on. Helicopter pilot Joanne Galloway, Neith Hunter, and computer expert Ed Moses, Miguel A. Núñez Jr., stay behind to monitor Jesse and the situation while the others venture downward. It isn’t long before danger materializes: Ben Kahane, Don Stroud, is slain by a swift predator, sending the others scrambling. Jesse, listening in via radio, realizes the gravity of what’s happening and bolts from the room just as a Velociraptor emerges, killing Moses in a brutal confrontation. Galloway tries to escape to the helicopter and start the engine, but a Velociraptor that slips into the craft turns the helicopter into a deadly trap, lifting the back seats and sealing its fate. The helicopter descends into chaos as the attacker destroys it, leaving the crew stranded.

With fear turning into resolve, the survivors regroup in the control room, where McQuade reluctantly reveals the true scope of the facility’s peril: a biotech experiment years earlier blended fossilized DNA to recreate dinosaurs, and dozens of eggs were stored at Yucca Mountain. The creatures hatched and began to kill the workers. Jesse informs the group that there is dynamite elsewhere on site, and they decide to use it to blow the plant and its inhabitants to stop the rampage, even as McQuade warns that the lower levels also house a dangerous atomic-waste repository with dozens of warheads. Radiation leaks threaten a catastrophic meltdown within hours, adding an urgent layer to the mission.

Jesse devises a plan to crash the facility’s computers into emergency mode, triggering an evacuation response while the team races to the surface. They rig the dynamite with tripwires to fend off the pursuing predators as they move through the corridors toward the elevator. A Velociraptor breaches the elevator shaft, killing Sarah Rawlins, Arabella Holzbog, and sending the elevator car plummeting as cables snap. The group battles onward, but Monk Brody, Rick Dean, is grievously injured when a tripwire is activated in his panic; he and McQuade choose to blow themselves up to destroy the lingering predators and buy time for the others.

Jesse and Jack Reed, John Savage, push on, but Reed loses his footing and dangles over a lethal drop. Jesse reaches the surface first and finds the evacuation team waiting, yet they refuse to risk a rescue given the imminent explosion. In a daring reversal, Jesse returns to the depths to save Reed. As they move toward the rescue helicopter, they narrowly dodge a Tyrannosaurus rex that bursts from the wreckage of the complex.

In a final act of defiance and ingenuity, Jesse seizes the remote detonator to trigger the last of the dynamite. The T. rex lunges, killing a member of the rescue crew, but Jesse uses a telescopic handler to mount a decisive assault, pushing the monster down an elevator shaft. The helicopter pulls away as the remaining explosives detonate, and the facility is obliterated, leaving no chance for a meltdown and ending the threat to the surrounding area.

Throughout the ordeal, the team’s resolve is tested by moral choices, lethal threats, and the claustrophobic pressure of a ticking clock. The survivors must rely on each other’s skills—and on courage they didn’t know they had—to outpace the dinosaurs, escape a collapsing complex, and avert a potential disaster of planetary scale.
