After serving time, Ray Dokes, a former baseball player, returns to his Ontario hometown, only to find the countryside reshaped by urban sprawl. He joins his old friend Pete Culpepper, a Texas‑born trainer of losing racehorses whose debts outpace his corn, and together they outwit a corrupt thoroughbred magnate trying to seize the local farms.
