Former special forces agent Nero [Scott Adkins] has swapped a life of covert missions for a quieter frontier, settling on the sun-warmed shores of Rosarito Beach in Baja California with his Taylor. His wife is gone, a tragedy that hangs over their small, seaside routine as Nero tries to give his son a sense of normalcy. That fragile peace shatters in an instant when a dart finds Nero, dragging him back into a world he hoped to leave behind. He awakens to a cruel reality: his Taylor has been kidnapped, and a chilling caller taunts him with footage of his son trapped inside a truck, the exhaust line dangerously siphoning air from the cabin.

The caller, a brutal organizer named Mzamo, offers a perilous bargain: fulfill a series of kills against key figures from dangerous crime syndicates, and his son will be returned. In exchange, Nero is equipped with a body cam—like a window into his every move—plus a vest, an arsenal, and a bulletproof Chevrolet Suburban that becomes as much a character in the story as Nero himself. The operation is monitored by Mzamo, his lover Alanza, and a cadre of cartel allies, with a cadre of corrupt intelligence agents led by Donovan overseeing the chessboard from the shadows.

Nero’s first mission unfolds in a restaurant that the Roja and Garza Cartels use as a nerve center. He infiltrates the joint, cuts through guards and rivals, and wipes out the threats with clean, decisive force. The outcome is brutal but efficient, and the moment marks the start of a deadly arc: each hit tightens Nero’s grip on the mission, but also pulls him deeper into a web of betrayal and shifting loyalties. For the second target, he slips into a prostitution den run by Eliazar Machado, a figure whose rampage across prostitution rings, racketeering, kidnapping, and bombing has made him a notorious name in the underworld. The fight is brutal, the corridor of danger crowded with Machado’s men, and Nero emerges victorious, though never fully sure who else might be watching.

As the body-cam reveals the stakes, Nero begins to reveal a sliver of his past to Taylor through the voice of the mission itself. The man behind the call—earlier content with the promise of safety—begins to show his own motives. Nero explains that the name “Nero” is a cover, a shield for a life he was forced to abandon after a betrayal within an intelligence service blew his cover and led to his wife’s death. The agency pulled him off duty, moving him and his son to Mexico for safety. The truth, as it slowly comes into view, is that Donovan was the one who betrayed Nero and manipulated the relocation, turning Nero toward a plan of annihilation designed to wipe out a rival faction by wielding Nero as a weapon.

The third target brings Nero to the estate of Omar Chavez, an arms dealer who knows Nero’s reputation and is ready to exploit it. A tense infiltration leads to a brutal confrontation; Chavez shoots Nero and destroys the body cam, convincing many that Nero is dead. Yet the truth is more complex: Mzamo’s men are ready to finish what Chavez started, and the situation spirals into a gunfight that tests Nero’s endurance to its limit. Chavez’s interrogation reveals Taylor’s whereabouts, and the two men—Nero and Chavez—tangle in a fierce exchange that ends with Nero besting Chavez and driving toward a final reckoning at Mzamo’s estate.

Donovan’s scheming can’t be allowed to stand. In a pivotal moment, Donovan pressures Mzamo to hand over a truck key that could release carbon monoxide into a vehicle and kill Taylor. Yet the plan backfires when Taylor has already found a safe place, moved by allies that Nero and Mzamo secure. The truth comes out in the heat of the confrontation: Donovan dies at Nero’s hands, and the rest of the agency’s agents who played both sides fall to Mzamo and Alanza, who kill the turncoats that threatened them. Taylor is freed in a cathartic moment of reunion, and father and son share a quiet, hard-won victory as they escape on the back of Mzamo’s motorcycle.

In the aftermath, Nero and Mzamo reach a cautious understanding. They agree to coexist, at least for the moment, knowing that the remnants of the cartel will likely pursue them again. Nero remains vigilant, resolved to strike back if he ever sees Mzamo or his crew again. As the sun drifts toward the horizon, the two set off into the road ahead, a stark reminder that danger can recede only so far, and that a hunter’s instincts never truly fade.
