The White Slave Trade 1910

Anna Ellen Diedrich is a young girl from a poor but honorable home in Denmark. When her father Otto Lagoni spots in a newspaper an ad for a well-paid job as a company lady in a London mansion, she travels to Copenhagen to interview and is happy to land the position. Her childhood friend and fiancé Lauritz Olsen Georg worries, but Anna dismisses his concerns and heads off for England.

Upon arrival, Anna is horrified to learn that the advertised role is not in a respectable house but in a luxury brothel. She manages to repel her first customer, yet the chance to escape slips away. The brothel’s Bordelvaertinde Ella La Cour takes pity on the newcomer and secretly sends a letter to her parents, prompting them to seek help from the Association for the White Slave Trade Fight.

Georg travels to London and Lauritz Olsen as the fiancé, hires a detective, and together they begin to track down the brothel where Anna is being kept. They work to arrange her evasion and a safe exit from the perilous situation. Anna manages to crawl out a window and the trio escapes in a horse-drawn carriage, but a wind-blown car chase leads to a tense moment when they are overpowered, and Anna is recaptured by the slaveholders.

She is then transported to the port to be sold to another country. When Georg and the detective, who have alerted Scotland Yard, arrive at the house, the maid reveals where Anna has been brought. Georg and the police manage to board the ship just before it leaves, and after a brief but exciting confrontation, Anna is finally freed and can return home, steps closer to safety and a renewed sense of hope.
