Benito Zambrano (born 20 March 1965 in Lebrija, Spain) is an award‑winning Spanish screenwriter and film director whose work bridges social realism and lyrical storytelling. He began his cinematic journey in the late 1980s, creating a series of short films such as ¿Para qué sirve un río? (1991) and La última humillación (1987) that explored themes of identity and marginalization, establishing his reputation in the Spanish independent circuit. Zambrano refined his craft at the prestigious Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba, where he absorbed a multicultural approach to filmmaking that later informed his transatlantic narratives. His first feature, Solas (1998), earned critical acclaim for its intimate portrait of a woman's resilience, winning several national awards and marking his emergence on the international stage.
