Actor and rapper Will Smith, along with his company Treyball Studios Management Inc., is facing a new legal controversy. A lawsuit filed by violinist Brian King Joseph alleges sexual harassment, wrongful termination, and retaliation stemming from events that occurred during Smith’s “Based on a True Story” global tour in 2025. This new legal challenge arrives just as Smith’s career had regained momentum following previous public controversies.
The lawsuit outlines a series of disturbing claims. It alleges that after losing his hotel room key during the tour in March 2025, Brian King Joseph returned to his room to find evidence of an intruder. This included a handwritten note signed “Stone F” containing a sexual threat, alongside personal items such as a bottle of HIV medication, an earring, and hospital discharge paperwork belonging to an unknown person. Joseph claims he feared for his safety and reported the incident to hotel staff, Smith’s management, and local police.
According to the filing, after reporting the incident, Joseph faced retaliation from the tour management. He alleges he was “shamed” by the team and subsequently had his contract terminated, with another violinist replacing him for the remainder of the tour. The musician is now seeking compensation for severe emotional distress, economic loss, and reputational harm, citing resulting PTSD and other mental illness.
Smith’s legal representatives have vehemently denied all accusations. In a statement issued to PEOPLE, they characterized Joseph’s allegations as “false, baseless, and reckless.” The statement concludes, “They are categorically denied, and we will use all legal means available to address these claims and to ensure that the truth is brought to light.” This case represents a significant new hurdle for Smith, whose public image has been carefully rebuilt in recent years.
